Fast Easy (And Cheap) Hinges

An often ignored hinge is a type of pivot hinge:

They are an easy mount and are use for an inset application. There are less expensive versions that just have slotted holes for adjustment. No mortising. I posted a method a while back for installing doors with common shop hardware in a similar fashion, which would cost less, but doesn't have an adjustment feature.

I've used a few of those in the past... Good product for the money, although they're made to look larger than life in the photos. They're actually pretty small, and not built to swing a weighty door, but still excellent for everyday projects.

Thanks for the post -- I haven't seen these types of hinges yet. They look like they could be cool for an inset lid on a jewelry box as well.

They would work well for a small box or a cabinet door. There will be a fixed gap allowing for the thickness of the metal and the grommet, which is about a 1/8". You could possibly reduce the gap by dropping the grommet a little deeper.
