    Hemlock for outdoor furniture?

I am about to build couple of Patio Tables for our backyard and I was thinking of using Hemlock. In the past I had always used Cedar but this time I want something heavier that is closer to hardwood (such as white oak). So has any one used Hemlock for these kind of projects? Any advise? Thanks in advance

At first I thought you wanted to poison somebody thru the seat of their pants!
"...Doctors are puzzled how this poison got into her body..."

But google told me that Hemlock the coniferous tree is unrelated to Hemlock the poisonous herb !

So now that your good intentions are established, I've lost some of my interest .

But as you can tell, I've never used it, sorry.

I would try to find some cypress (reclaimed) it would last a long time. The hemlock I know from working on old house was always full of splinters. I don't know if I would want to be sitting/sliding around on that.

The hemlock I've used for fascia has been very splintery.

'round here most hemlock is used in framing as a slightly better grade of stud. Based on the info in my link I'd rather use cedar for outdoor stuff. Both of these woods are quite common around here so reasonable in cost.

Thanks everyone! (and NO, I was not trying to kill anyone! Although that would be a good story for an episode of "House"!)

Mark, thanks for the link! A lot of good information there.

I'll keep looking for a suitable local substitute. Thanks again!
