Drawers! Doh!!! Anyone got a wood stretcher?

I spent hours milling drawer stock for the 8 drawers on my Maloof dresser. It
took less than a minute to screw some up.

Today I squared up one end of each drawer side and back using my panel sled.
I needed the sides to be 19 1/4" long. Clamped a stop block to the sled and
started cutting the sides one at a time to final length. After about 15 cuts, I
looked at my cut pile, my to be cut pile, and the dresser. Oh sh*t!!! I was
also cutting the drawer backs to the same length as the sides. The drawers
are wider side to side than front to back! The backs are too short!

All told, I ruined 5 backs. I guess if I screw up making the joints on my sides,
I have extra, but now I need to go out and buy more wood. Luckily, the
backs are poplar and the price of S4S poplar at HD isn't too outrageous, but
man do I hate going to HD on a weekend when the weather is nice. Brings
out the crazies and POed people who have some project at home they hadn't
planned on tackling that day. Better bring my flack jacket!

Hoping the baby comes late because he still has to build a crib,
    Paul

That's an easy mistake to make. I got in a habit of marking each piece, keeping them in piles, and adjusting an item list as they get done. FWIW.

After doing that a few time, I got in the habit of writing on each piece what it was in chalk which comes off in the final sanding. I've made more than my share of custom firewood like that.

I have a piece of wood hung on the wall in my shop, to remind me to pay attention... I have painted, in 3" letters, "NFG" on it. It actually surprises me how often it catches my eye, but as Martha says, that's a good thing...

Perhaps this would be a good use for one or your mistakes...

My wood stretcher is in the shop, but you can borrow the way back machine if you like. Had to use it the other day when I "cut the wrong end" (wrong side of the line with the CMS). This of course left the board TFS, making it NFG.

I had momentary dyslexia and read this as "FNG" - which is what I feel like every time I cut on the wrong side of the line...
