Receptacles for stranded and solid wire?

There is a type of receptacle that is often used with stranded wire that has a sort of clamping mechanism. Instead of wrapping a solid conduction around a screw, you insert the stripped stranded wire into the clamp and crank the screw. Kinda nice.

Can you use those with solid wire (using the same clamping mechanism), or are they only intended for stranded?

If they're what I think they are, you can use them for solid. Just make sure you get them tight.

I assume you are describing a receptacle for an extension cord. You can use solid wire to make a temp extension cord but it won't withstand a lot of flexing at the clamp point.

You can use either solid or stranded in those receptacles.

          No, actually, permanent wiring.
