heart pine floor finishes

We just purchases reclaimed heart pine floors that are vertical and flat sawn. I want to put tung oil on them but I have an in-home day care and am worried about allergies to the nut. I am also allergic to tree nuts but not to the point that I am worried about me. Is it possible to still have a reaction to this oil once it is dried? Can you put a water based poly over this? I don't want an oil based because I work at home, have young children and would need to leave and I have a dog that I would need to bring along with me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I want to use the tung oil because I like the finish on it and how it brings out the color. Also with such a busy household I can do touch ups as necessary.

Welcome to BT3Central. If you waited long enough for tung oil to fully cure I doubt you would have allergy problems. That said I think it would make a poor choice for a floor fininsh. First it takes a long time to cure. Second it works best when it is worked into the wood as opposed to a surface finish. Lastly it is not as durable IMHO as floor finishes. You could possibly achieve the same look with a different oil finish top coated with several layers of clear gloss polyurathane.
