    Gun Rest Ideas.

I have been thinking about building a rest to for gun cleaning purposes (mainly bolt action rifles) lately . I have recently added a rifle for my son and another for myself and it would make the job much easier with the proper rest. The basic idea I have is to build a flat bottom with a vee up front then add either a wood clamp or maybe modified c clamp in the backto grab the butt of rifle.

Anyone ever build these and have pictures or better ideas than this?
I know they are simple but I appreciate the creative members on the forum.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

Yes that is really close. I was thinking maybe about routing a slot and using some bolts and wing nuts to give the clamp some adjustability. I am not surr if this would be needed.

If Stan from Montana does not post his cradle you might drop him a PM. He's on just about every day.

I made one as part of the 2x6 challenge from a few years back. Unfortunately, the pictures did not make it with an upgrade so they are no longer available in that forum thread.
I'll see if I can dig up the pictures and repost them here for you to take a look at and see if that helps at all.

That looks great. The vise section is similar to what I had in mind with the c-clamp.
It appears the pieces that comprise the vise section are covered with vinyl and padded or is it just painted?

              Thank you for the ideas!!

It is padded with a thin layer of high density foam and leather.
