    Planing Rough Lumber

I want to mill some pieces that have wax emulsion on the ends. I can scrape the excess but will the stuff that's left wreck my planer and jointer knives?

No. Paint or wax on the ends might impact feed if it got on the feed rollers but I doubt it. I see no way it could hurt the knives. I do not remove it but the lumber I buy has always been painted, I think.

Paint or wax won't hurt the knives. What will is any grit stuck to them and/or the finish used on pre-finished flooring. That stuff is brutal on saw blades. If you were really worried you could cross cut the ends to get the wax off.
