    Something different

I have combined 2 of my favorite hobbies, wood working and electronics/computers.
I call it a MUBU, Modified USB Backup Unit.
It is a small form factor USB backup that would not work with the 2.5" hard drive I had. So, I modified it for use with 3.5" drives. I had to supplement the power with 5 and 12 volt from the PC with an external connection. That I put on a kill switch so it is not powered when not in use.
I wouldn't say that it is fit for mass production, it was just fun to build.

That's really slick. That would look good on a desk.

I've done some wood computer items, but they've been pretty utilitarian. That was back when I jumped off into the deep end of DC (Distributed Computing).

A very cool idea and nicely designed. Well done.

                Thanks all.

No Bob, doing th PC would be way too much work. Besides It would then be put into the cubby on my desk and I'd never see aything but the front.

I was surprised that the solder connections held up and the whole thing still worked after repeated disassembly. This is the converstion from the 2.5" unit to a 3.5" connection.
