beetle holes in wood...flaw? or ads character?

I have access to a place to buy "air dried" rough cut lumber. The lumber is stacked, stickered, but left out in the open in the New Jersey climate ($1.50/bd foot) I have found that some of the oak that I have purchased has beetle holes in it. I don't know if they were there before milling, or created after by beetles after. They are not really visible until after I have planed the lumber.

The holes are less than a 1/16" in diameter and are scattered.

Do these holes add character, or are these holes "flaws"?

Depends on what you are doing, and what your tastes are. Ambrosia maple is a very attractive wood, made more so by the bore holes and fungus staining contributed by the Ambrosia Beetle. But, as with everything else, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Just make sure there are no live critters still in your workpiece.
