    Entertainment Center Top?

Had originally planned on using Walnut ply with edgebanding for the top but am now thinking about resawing some Walnut at around 1/4 inch thick then through the planer for around 1/8"x 4" and glueing to a plywood base. Am I headed toward problems? Can this be done with just glue and a roller?
    Thanks

I would go for a 3/4" Walnut plywood top, with a solid wood edging. It would be much more uniform with no problems.

Do you mean the top where the TV sits or the very top (typically 6' or higher)? IMHO unless the piece is going to be highly visible and/or you have some awsome grain and figure you want to show off its not worth the effort.

As it looks like you will still have to edge band the ply and if you are going to veneer you will need a good quality substrate it does seem like a lot of work when you could buy a nice piece of walnut ply.

Techniquewise I think you are fine with the resaw and planing. I would use a secondary table to take stock down to and 1/8", however, I think you may come unstuck (sorry couldnt resist ) if you try to use only a roller. A vacuum press or a bunch of clamps and cauls is whats typically required. If you do go this way you should veneer both surfaces to keep the piece balanced.

        Thanks!
This is the top that the tv will sit on and after the responses will return to the original plan. Walnut ply with edgeband.
        thanks again
