One of these things is not like the others

LOML came out to the shop yesterday to see how her dining room table was coming along and to chat. So, I was dryfitting everything together on the base for her to see how it would look and to get her thoughts. She did all the ohh and ahh we have come to expect, then came the moment. She went hmmm and walked around it again then asked "why is this leg different from the other ones?"

I walked around to explain that it was probably a trick of perspective and realized she was right. That one leg wasn't just a little different, it was nothing like the others. Seems I had grabbed the wrong template when I marked that one and somehow I hadn't noticed when I set the legs aside. I'll plead fatigue as it was late when I cut those. I just stood there looking at it then started laughing, couldn't even work up a good cussing.

Oh well, I have plenty of stock to remake that one.

Funny how an impartial party can pick something like that out. Hey...if it wasn't caught, it would have been a real conversation piece.

Catching the mistake during a dry fit makes it a lot easier to laugh off! I guess that's what dry fits are all about. And sometimes there's nothing like a fresh pair of eyes to see something you've gotten accustomed to.

Then again, the last time my wife came into the shop, I cut my thumb half off.

      Regards,
      Tom
