    Best strippers...

What just flashed in through your head?

I'm refinishing the cabinets on the house and need a bit of advice. I started on the small bath and have been stripping the doors and drawer fronts outside. I'm using BIX varnish and stain remover. The cabinets are red oak with what I believe to to be only a clear poly. So once I get through it the wood is pretty clear and won't require a lot of sanding. I need to avoid sanding as their is a lot of veneer ply. But the BIX isn't doing such a great job and it fumes pretty bad.

Is the citrisafe product really as good of a product as some say? I've never been really impressed with citris based alternatives in the past and the same manufacturer has 10 different more caustic formulas on the shelf right next to it. I know straight acetone will do a number on the finish but most of the work is inside and I have little ones in here.

I think you know the answer to that. Sorry, but I have no other answers for you.

I've used kutzit with great results, but I've only used it on solid wood, never anything veneered. It took off the clear really well, and actually pulled out a good bit of the oil-based stain.

For use indoors Citristrip would be your best bet.

Gee Thanks; I just thought of two places that definitely would never, ever, qualify. :scary:

Don't know about the paint stuff. My wife and grandaughter do pretty good without any chemicals.

There's a learning curve but the safest stripper I've used is called Ready-Strip by Back to Nature. It's fairly high dollar but if you use as directed it's really effective in my experience.

                Nothing related to refinishing cabinets.

You guys are sure giving plenty to research, thanks for the graphic Tom. I just need to clear the cache before the wife gets home. Normally she's in charge of clearing the cash.

I've had Citristrip on the base cabinet for about 3 hours and it looks like it's slowly breaking through. I'll try a test scraping again after dinner. It's alot easier to work with than the bix - Stays where you put it and doesn't dry out.
