    cabinet door hinge question

First cabinet door project. Shaker style frame/panel 3/4" thick door. I would like a Euro style hinge/frame cab and on test door I have tried full overlay, 1.25 overlay and 3/4 overlay with no luck. I seem to need something between a 1.25 and 3/4 to get the right line up. The door overlay currently = 1 1/8". The pictures are of the old doors btw but new doors will be same size. Any suggestions?

Why not just use the same style hinge? The Euro hinges take up a lot of room in the cabinet.

Bill, who really doesn't like the Euro hinge.

I would not use the same hinges. Most brands of euro face frame hinges will list the overlay for the hinge and the plate. I would remove the existing doors. Find the centerline for a pair of doors, and allow a minimum of 3/32" for the gap between the doors. Then make a mark for the outer edges of the doors. Where you marked for the outer edge, measure to the edge of the face frame, and that is the overlay dimension. You may have to settle for a lesser overlay, but remember, where the hinged edge of one door meets the hinged edge of the door next to it, you want that gap to be the same as what you left in between a pair of doors.

You would want some adjustment between a pair of doors and between the hinged edges of doors to get a final adjustment. If the gap is too small, your adjustment parameters will be minimal.

Thanks, I tried the 1.25 again and found that my bore was a 1/4" from door edge which caused the back edge of door to rub on frame when opened. I planed to 1/8" and door fits perfect.
