    I'm Another Idiot

I have been building another style of coffee shelf/mug rack. I centered the base section to the top shelf and marked the outside of where the base section was. I drilled the first screw holes correct but when LOML brought in a mug of tea, I drilled out the next holes on the wrong side of the line. Fortunately 1/8 holes fill with wood putty with out too much trouble. Next rack, I figure on marking the inside so I won't repeat my mistake. Only I drilled the first hole on the wrong side of the line...again. Got to remember to put an arrow or something so I can remember what side to drill

Rich, I find it useful to put an x on the side that I am working on. It helps, esp. when there are interruptions or you have to stow your projects in lieu of other more important chores (i.e. work lol)
I think in straight lines, but dream in curves

I've done things like that a time or two. I made a small cabinet with 2 sets of drawers. The sides had dadoes cut on the inside, and the divider had dadoes cut on both sides. But when things get going too good, my brain sometimes goes to sleep. That's what happened when I cut an extra dado on the outside of one of the sides. I glued it up that way so I could have something to look at to remind me to think!

Me too. I'll mention just one - when I drilled the shelf holes for a kitchen cabinet, on one side I drilled them vertically, the other side I did horizontally - oops, so what was supposed to be the inside is not the outside for that panel, good thing I could cover that up

Having been caught MANY times, my solution is to mark with chalk - very easy to get off.

I keep meaning to move toward chalk Rod, it's too much work to sand out pencil marks all of the time (or scrape out).... great suggestion.

There is just something in the weather! I think learning to fix mistakes builds character.

                      Ah, true confessions time.

It's encouraging to know I'm not the only one who makes at least one dumb mistake on every project.
