Steam to straighten out a twist?

A friend is working on a project out of "utile" 1/2" thick by 2" wide by 18" long.
After he cut the piece it developed a twist of about 3/8 along the length
Can he steam it and them clamp it to straighten it out?
Any tips as how long to steam, clamp and plans for a steamer box would be appreciated, if in fact it can be done.
    Thanks Mel

Maybe if he steams it and puts an opposite twist in it. If he just steams it to straighten out it will likely twist again after the clamps are off.
Sometimes the old man passed out and left the am radio on so I got to hear the oldie songs and current event kind of things
