My business partner’s 92 year old father passed on Christmas Eve. He was part of “the greatest generation”. Here is an excerpt of his military career
Dan volunteered for the Army shortly after Pearl Harbor in 1942 and proudly served until 1963, almost continuously as an Airborne Infantry officer. He was an Infantry gliderman (100 landings) and paratrooper (140 jumps) in the 82nd Airborne Division who served his country in WWII and the Korean conflict. Upon his retirement from the Army in 1963, he was the longest continuously serving Army paratrooper on active duty. After retiring from the Army, Dan used his extensive knowledge to again serve his country as a civil servant at Ft. Lee, VA teaching Army Logistics for over 20 years.
I had the honor of attending his funeral in Davidson NC today. The military color guard for the burial was from the 82nd Airborne Division. The grave side service was with full military honors; 21 gun salute, taps, presentation of the flag to the widow and a bagpipe player. It was both impressive and moving.
I have been asked to build a flag and medals display case. I am truly honored to do so, but I need some plans or guidance. Any of our distinguished group of Veterans have a set of plans or know of a source for plans.
