    water based finish

I am going to make some small projects for Christmas, and I have a finish question. If I use some 23 gauge pins, will I have a problem with a water-based finish? I don't want them to rust later on.

    Thanks

You can get stainless steel 23 gauge pinners. I don't recall where I saw it, but I probaly googled it. You could probably find some coated nails also that might work, but I would spring for the stainless. No sense ruining your beautiful work over 20 cents a box.

Most of the pin nails, brads, and staples are galvanized. Seating the fastener and filling the hole, or finishing over will seal. I've never had a rust problem with waterbased finish over a fastener on interior furniture.

        Thanks

Great. Thanks for the answers. I was concerned about the finish itself causing rust, but it sounds like this won't be a major concern.

This is one of my first woodworking projects, and while I'm not in a hurry yet, if I don't get moving I will be. I have to have it finished by Sunday so I can fly home for Christmas with it.

once the finish dries there is no water left to cause rust. the finish itself isn't corrosive.
