    compound joints

Have any of you folks ever cut finger joints or dovetails into compound angle corners?

I have a project I am starting for LOML that wasnt that complex until she said that finger joints or DT would look nice

Informed women can be troublesome. You should have shielded her from that type of information. DAMHIKT. Loml knows waaaay too much about woodworking.

+1 and is better at finishing than I am.

        Are you referring to these:

A Japanese friend whom I have lost contact with - he did these. He learned how to do them when on a trip to San Diego / Palomar College for a woodworking seminar about 7 or 8 years ago.

How true, but when I got my DT jig I showed her what it can do and now she is taxing my brain - and abilities.

Having given myself a headache figuring out the compound angles and miters and done a bit of research I think the only way to do it would be by hand. For this project I think I wont tax myself too much.

Its difficult to tell from the photos, are the corners and edges of the sides at 90 degrees? They look like they are and if so thats no what I am thinking of. I built a mockup from MDF and will post later so you can see what I'm doing.

Got to go and clear up no as we are heading out for dinner and the Bond - James Bond!!

              Mock-up

Here is an MDF mockup of what I am trying to do. Originally I thought of trying to do finger joints or DTs but with these angles to say thats tough would be an understatement!

I have elected to use compound miters and may add some keys for detail.

If anybody knows how to uses DTs or fingfers in this type of joint, please share as it may come in hand later.

Sorry, I misread it. You wanted compound angle _corners_. I posted compounded angled fingers. Big difference!

No problem, they were facinating DTs you posted, very different.

Lemme mess around in inventor and see if I can't figure out finger joints for a compound angle. I would rule out dovetails right now, unless you wanna put 100 hours of design into this project.

Edit- I just put a run of the mill box joint on two pieces that fit together for a compound miter. Perfect fit. I had problems with the top and bottom not being flush only because I didn't use beveled sides. I think that should eb easy to figure out.

the first two show the completed joint, and the last two are the two pieces I used.
