    Another countertop question

May this question not start another firestorm...

The countertop I am building is an L shape with 1-1/2-inch edges and an inside corner.

Question is: How to you trim the plastic laminate glued to the edge at the 90-degree inside corner? Even a trim router won't get all the way into the corner.

Is the answer an offset base for the trim router or is there a less expensive way to cleanly trim the remaining plastic laminate away form the corner and flush with the top?

    Thanks,

    Bill

You could carefully file the laminate with a rasp or metal file. You could even remove it with a sanding block.

A sanding block works well as suggested. Make sure you don't file towards the color. Or, take your mill file and lay it flat on the top where you have already trimmed with a trim bit. Then with the file angled with the handle tipped toward the color side (face), use short deliberate strokes only in one direction towards the top using the edge to rasp the laminate flat to the top. Start the movement of the file before it makes contact with the edge of the laminate.

IOW, you don't want the file 90 deg to the edge of the laminate. The plane of the file should create an acute angle with respect to the handle of the file and the face of the laminate. One or two strokes shears it off. Sand or file flat any laminate that is not cleanly taken off.
