That will be a very nice gift. Are you doing the whole rank badge or just the eagle?

        Eagle Badge

I'll be doing the whole badge.
I'm thinking that I'll use BB plywood as the base to utilize the white color that is need in certain areas.
For the blue part I'll use some purpleheart, and some bloodwood for the red part.
I have yet to figure out an easy way to do the lettering. I was hoping to find some colored epoxy and just fill the letters, but havent found any yet.
If anyone has any suggestions on the wod or epoxy....feel free

Sometimes I'm so stupid...I amaze myself

I was looking at the template that I traced and figured it wouldn't work.
So I went back to the drawing board (about 40 hours so far) and came up with a drawing of what I wanted

This drawing is what the inlayed pieces of wood will be shaped like.

I had to take that drawing and modify it a couple of times to accomodate the 2 different templates I need just for the feathers.
So far I've counted 6 different templates I'll need
I drink WAY to much coffee to do it freehand.
I sure am glad it will take about 4+ years for my son to earn his Eagle.
I think I'll need every bit of that time

That is a very challenging project. The effort will be worth it ever if it take 4 years. Keep us posted on you projects. If a project take me more than a month I loose interest.

                Prototype of wings

Got the wings done on the prototype. Had some scrape plywood and some thin oak from another project laying around

It doesnt look very pretty, just working out the kinks before I use the good wood
