I Want A Crotch Like This

I've got to make a lamp table between two chairs. Both chairs are very unique. One is an antique Savonarola chair from Italy, and the other is a Mahogany rocker I resurrected from pieces off a scrap pile.

The table will be less than 2' square, and 2' or less in height. I want it fancy as all get out. I also plan to make a matching lamp, which I haven't designed yet, and am looking for some wild ideas for both items.

For the table top, I'm considering a crotch veneer I found at Bob Morgan, like the one below, but I'm open for suggestions.

      Hey Cab,

I thought you were referring to something interesting.

I do not know if you have a firewood pile or access to downed trees but I cut a new forestock for my 20 gauge side-by-side out of a chunk of firewood one weekend when I was bored. It was a crotch of an unknown hardwood (the tree was dead when I cut it down so I had no bark or leaves to use in identifying it). I roughed it with a chain saw and then cut it up on my table saw. It shrunk a lot - I should have let it dry more - but it is still on the gun and I've gotten many favorable comments.

          TERRIFIC!

This is a rare opportunity for a photo tutorial that I'm sure a LOT of the members here would just LOVE to see. Consider:

It means we could FINALLY, after almost two years, get to see some pictures of a project of yours while it is actually being built.

It means we could FINALLY, after almost two years, get to see some pictures of the interior of your shop, and your tools.

It means we could FINALLY, after almost two years, be able to observe your "master crafted" woodworking skills as they are actually being applied.

It means we could FINALLY, after almost two years, get you away from the "Coffee Pot" and focus on some actual woodworking -- which is, after all, the reason we're all here. (Isn't it?)

A complete project -- TWO projects, in fact -- designed and built by our very own "cabinetman," step-by-step, start to finish! What could be better than that?

How about it, fellow BT3ers ... don't you agree that this would be something truly wonderful to see?

Even though Larry's tone might be a bit across the line I think his challenge is fair. I would also like to see you do a as-the-project-develops post. That is exacly what this forum was started for. Members helping members with jigs, tricks, techniques, and projects. The Coffee Pot was not meant to be the main focus.

I'll address this in a post instead of in a PM, and be as diplomatic as possible. With all due respect, as you say Larry's tone is a bit across the line...I say it's way over the line. I don't pander to anyone's judgmental interest. What's his intent and motive? To see a shop? To see tools? He may believe gloats like that are important, I don't. We all post what, how and where. The posts that I submitted with finished work get little response. Larry doesn't respond to any of those or any of my technique tips or suggestions. I do offer a variety of technical information within my scope of experience, not information from previous posts by others or things I've heard.

The "off topic" forum on this site and other sites are usually popular and I also enjoy posting there. Making comments of where I post IS over the line. I enjoy this site and appreciate the knowledge, humor, and intellect of our members, whether it is in the technical forums or in the "Coffee Pot".

I have to be neutral since I'm an Admin. I would rather not see any of our members offended. I'll not question Larry's motives as to why he wrote what he did. As Admin I get to see things that others do not such as when a member deletes a post. I have seen where some members have had second thoughts about what they have posted and deleted for the betterment of the forum.

In the future lets agree to take the bickering off line. My hope is that a peaceful solution can be found. Normally I'd answer this type of dispute off line but you made it public even after admitting that you should PM your feelings. It's really best that if a persons post bothers you to take it up with either the other poster off-line or any of the forum's staff, also off-line.

Upon consultation with one of the other moderators I am closing this topic. Please take the dispute off-line if you wish to work it out and agree to stop the attacks on-line.
