slides for low shelf

Need some help please.
I want to make 2 slide out shelves for the very bottom of a cabinet. The shelf will be 3/4" plywood and it will basically be like sliding the cabinet bottom put to make it easier to get to the stuff in the back.
What slides do I use for this? I'd like them to mount between the plywood and the cabinet floor so that there is no more than about 1.25" of the height lost on the operation. I am not sure the 1/2" thick full extension slides can or should be used in this way.
Any other ideas? The KV1129 mounts on the bottom and I guess I could put one on each side.

You could use bottom mount. I prefer to use side mount full extension slides. I've mounted them to a 3/4" edge with no problem. You will likely have to space out the cabinet member on the hinge side for clearance.

I have seen several versions of this in different books and magazines. All suggest low sides and backs to keep items from falling off.

I have used both bottom- and side-mounted slides, While both work quite well, the bottom-mounted slides give a very small increase in surface area, although probably not a significant amount.

Don't use anything less than 3/4 ply. Pappy's suggestion for including short sides and back is well worth considering.

The sliding shelf sure saves on the old back. Regards, Steve

I will third the suggestion to make it into a shallow drawer. Without sides and a back stuff will constantly fall off jamming up the drawer in one way or another.

You will probably want to bolt the whole cab to the wall so that it won't tip when the drawer is at full load and full extension.

yea, I believe that full extension slides wouldn't work well because they are designed to take the load across their long dimension, not the short one. I remember reading this in a magazine once, and they recommended sides and a back, like pappy said.

I'd look it up, but I don't wanna dig through the boxes that are sufficing for a blanket chest at the moment. I checked american woodworker, and I believe it is issue 120, page 68 that I'm referring to.
