My first shop fatality... (don't worry -- it's not so bad!)

I set out to replace a couple of pawns that my dog chewed up about 20 years ago, and I ended up brutally decapitating one of them. Poor little guy -- I didn't even get to put a hood over his head.

I turned on the band saw and (apparently without much thought) set him down as I reached for the little jig I was using to trim the bottom. Well, round things apparently roll. And by the time I got to the off switch he was already long gone...

His brother survived, though, and will soon be taking up his post in front of the queen's rook. The other rook's pawn square will stay empty for a few more days as a memorial -- and until I have time to do try it again.

Sometimes to win you have to sacrifice a pawn or two. Now that one looks more like a bishop.

You really have to feel sorry for the poor guy.
