My wife wanted a desk with clean looks. One unit is a cabinet with a flat,
inset door. She wanted no visible hardware when viewed from the outside
so I used 2 cup hinges and a magnetic touch latch--the kind you press in and then a spring pops the door open. The problem is the hinges have
enough tension in their springs that it virtually overcomes the force of the
spring in the touch latch. It was hard to predict this without completing the
installation. The door only pops out 1/4" rather than 1/2" to 3/4" which is
what I'd need to get a good finger hold on the door edge to open it. I'm not
using a metal plate on the door to engage the magnet on the latch.
The hinge tension is not adjustable. The door fits perfectly. I'm looking for
alternatives or enhancements to the latch before I resort to finding a low
profile door pull.
I knew I should have gone with the knife hinges.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
