    Knife Block Plans

I'd like to make a kitchen knife holder for xmas but can't find plans anywhere, I've searched the web. Has anyone ever seen plans for these?

    Thanks, buddyrough

        Buddy...

My sister alway lusted after my Global knives. I bought her a chef's knife and made a block for just that knife.

I used Walnut and Maple. I traced the knife on the Maple and cut it out with a scroll saw.

          steve,

that is very attractive and you've given me an idea or two. i need one that will hold 5 to 7 knives and i may try to make it with "layers" and inserts the way yours looks. nice job and thanks.

            Rod,

In fact, I bought my sister another knife the following year. The Global paring knife looks like a small chef's knife. So, I made a scale miniature of the block shown. Unfortunately, I neglected to take a picture. I know no pics, didn't happen.

Anyway, I attached the small unit to the larger, with small rare earth magnets. The units can be displayed together or apart. I've been getting some hints about my sashimi knife. Maybe a third unit this Xmas.

whatever design you use I recommend that the knives fit into the block with the blade either turned sideways or upside down. With the sharp edge down you are always cutting the holder whenever you use the knife and you are dulling the edge by resting on the bottom of the slot.

                Weir

                Buddyrough,

Weir is in the southeast corner of Kansas. I am just a few miles from the Oklahoma and Missouri lines. It is a huge town of about 750 or so people. Our claim to fame is that the flyswatter was invented here in a corner drugstore, for a boy scout project.

                Good luck with your project!
