Millspride Stock Doors - What Hinges to use?

    Hi There,

I bought quite a few of these doors when HD was clearing them out a while back. I finally got around and start to use them. I found the pre-drill holes don't match with the current stocked concealed hinges in HD. Just wondering if anyone had use these doors before and can share what size I should look for.

The door pack I am looking to use is pack G.

    Thanks,
    Joe.

I don't understand. You are saying they are pre-drilled for euro hinges? What doesn't fit?

The doors have pre-drill holes (both the 35mm cup and the small holes for the screws). The small holes do not line up with any of the available hinges in HD. I guess I chould just drill again, but I am wondering if there are different sizes that I should look for.

      Thanks,
      Joe.

Hmmm, I thought those were pretty much standardized. You might take a glace at some assembled ones next time you are in HD to see if you can spot a brand name (probably not). Otherwise, you might try contacting Mill Pride and ask them what brand they use. I'm assuming that the hole spacing/pattern would be standard for a given brand.

Drywall screws are not wood screws

How big are those holes? Sounds like the snap in cups that have tension fittings instead of screws.

I think the drilled holes are pretty small, so it can probably just drill another one, not a big deal. The pre-drilled holes are at least a quarter inch from the holes that I would drill using the stocked hinges.

I saw in Millspride website that I can actually order their hinges. They apparently charge a lot more.

I think I would just go with that. Was just wondering if there are different types of euro hinges.

            Thanks,
            Joe.

As you stated using stock hinges from HD would likely be the less expensive route.

As to the question of standardization in Euro hinges, yes pretty much, HOWEVER there are a couple different non-standard sizes which have different features. However 90% of them are all pretty much on the same pattern. As I noted I did run across some recently that were tension fitted rather than screwed in and the "screw" holes were larger and set in a different location.

Also, depending upon your overlay, HD has 10 packs of Euro hinges for attractive prices.

Now why would you go and send him to Lee Valley for Euro hinges? Don't you realize how expensive just opening the website can be?!?!? I received the new LV hardware catalog last week. Mmmmmmm, hours of reading.

BTW, my UPS tracking number says my LV order will be delivered tomorrow! Hmmm should I contemplate working tomorrow or just write the day off?
