Does anyone know of a good book that explains how to glaze, particularly cabinet doors? I really like the look and would like to see if I could perform it when I build my kitchen cabinets.

Bob Flexner's book "Understanding Wood Finishing" only devotes two pages to the subject. Google provides a couple of interesting hits:

From what I recall, you need to apply a good finish (poly or varnish) to protect the glaze.
The best bet is probably to practise on some scraps of the material you intend using for the cabinets. Best of luck with the project.

Jeff Jewitts book is actually a little better on this technique than the Flexner. This is typical with Flexner being technical and Jewitt being application based.
Great Wood Finishes by Jewitt has an entire chapter on glazing and glazing techniques, though in all fairness each chapter is around 20 pages. Can't imagine an entire book devoted strictly to glazing. Its a pretty basic technique but needs to be experimented and perfected by the person doing the application. If you don't own this book and are interested in finishing it is excellent. The Flexner book is great as well. I would recommend owning both books as together they can answer about darn near any finishing question.
Glazing is a pretty easy IMHO. I have done it on a desk top to avoid refinishing, painted then glazed my parents kitchen cabinets when I was around 25 years old or so, and I glazed a bedroom set that I built.
I HATE waterbased products in this application. In fact the only thing I do like in waterbased products is higher end clear finishes through HVLP. But as far as staining, sealing or glazing just say no to water based finishes.Comment
