Does anyone know where to find a set of plans for a pool table light? After searching for all kinds of lights and choking on some of the prices I am considering building one myself out of mahogany to match my table. However I'm getting stuck on how to calculate the compound miters. I'm thinking this should be a typical rectangular light approx. 18" x 48" x 14" in hieght that slopes inward by about 22.5 degrees from bottom to top. What I haven't been able to figure out is the correct corner miter to accomodate this slope. Any help? Apologize if my description isn't very clear. Thanks

This is a complicated project.
If the angles and the reflective finish on the inside of the light are less than totally perfect it will create shadows on the playing surface. This will make the game not only difficult and unsatisfying, but possibly hazardous to your eyesight!
It just happens that I have a Budweiser table light with no table to hang it above. To relieve your frustration, and save you from future blindness, I will gladly remove the evil object from your house.
Seriously, unless you are bent on creating your own custom light, watch craigslist. I see these come up a lot.
BTW, there really IS an old table light hanging in my attic.Last edited by Pappy; 10-24-2007, 05:16 AM.Don, aka Pappy,

Complicated indeed!
Well Pappy first off thanks for theoffer of the Budweiser lamp. Unfortunately the misses has nixed any idea of a BBB theme. (that's beer, broads, and booze). O'h well.
You're right it is complicated unless you're a geometry wiz kid. However since posting I did find this site that calculates the corresponding angles for this sort of thing. This may already be posted somewhere but I'll add it just the same. I have tried a couple proto-types using some MDF and so far I have found it to be quite challenging. In order to be precise, one or more of the angles is measured in hundreths and I have yet to get my settings that good. A recommendation on a quality angle guage is apppreciated.

I will then be challenged with making the right jig to clamp and glue the sides together. I'm going to try a few more times and I can't get it right I think I'll just have a Budweiser. (Several)
