    BLO pre-expoxy? Burl/Slab Question

So I bought a couple boards from a guy today (less than 500bf is a couple, right?) and began negotiating a BIG pile of highly figured maple burl slabs. He threw me the outside slab which contained a lot of live edge etc to check out color, figure etc. I have never done an expoxy finish but plan to on this. Any idea if full cured BLO is a problem before a two part expoxy finish?

    Thanks

    Jeff

BTW the slabs are a full 8/4 plus and will have this kind of figure, of course without the knots, etc.

I also am going to have some killer pen/bowl blanks from the cuts off of this burl slab.

If it is full cured you shouldn't have a problem.

That was my thinking as well however I have only use epoxy to secure knots etc. The more I think about it the more likely that will be what I do here as well! Still needed to address the BLO epoxy thing though, so thanks.

I'd suggest running a test piece through the entire finishing schedule you have in mind. Even slight differences may make it work for one guy where it fails for another.

If you run a few variations simultaneously, just keep good notes on your recipes.

BTW, found my answer to the BLO / epoxy question. Its a go when fully cured.

That piece on the top right already looks like a half-done shark (or maybe gator head).

As an added note, IIRC, the epoxy glues have a different chemical composition than the two part epoxy type resin (pour on) finishes.
