    ShopMade Drum Sander

Since I can't seem to get this out of my head I want to build a drum sander. The type I want to build will be modeled after the kit on stockroomsupply.com.

I am having trouble finding a drum that would be suitable for this tool so I am asking for ideas on where I might purchase such an item. It would be 2-3" in diameter, 15-18" long and on a fixed shaft. I have considered conveyor belt rollers but they seem to have bearings between the roller and the shaft so that doesn't seem to be feasible.

So if anyone has an idea it would be appreciated. I have seen plans that use MDF or plywood discs glued together on a shaft and will go that route if I can't find a suitable roller/shaft combination. Thanks.

hey rags what about using a piece of 3" sucker rod and welding the shaft thur the pipe
then you could have the pipe trued on a lathe. i could get the pipe and weld the shaft and have a friend true it on his lathe( i'm still in the process of buying mine just got to come to terms over the price) or i have some 1 1/4" mdf

If you have a band saw and make a circle cutting jig, it's not that hard to make one out of MDF. Someone else on this board is building one if these now also.
