wood suppliers in MD PA VA WV

I'm going to be launching a new business in the next few weeks making outdoor items ( modern design birdhouses / feeders, sandboxes and studio sheds ) and I want to prototype the bird items to make sure it all works out. The feeders/houses will be out of ply and some sort of soft or hardwood which will either be painted with a marine paint or stained a very dark brown colour (think wenge).

My experience with ply from the borg et al has been fairly disappointing so far so I was debating about using 1/4" baltic birch.I'm pretty sure it will be ok when painted but I'm not so sure about if stained.

Will BB be ok for exterior use? I need it to last 3 - 5 years

Where is a good supplier in the MD PA WV VA area?

    Cheers,

    Patrick

    Hey Patrick,

Sorry I missed you last weekend. How's the fence?

Ply Suppliers in our area? Well, not sure how far you want to drive. There is supposed to be a place on the west side of Winchester (just off 50) and I know that vienna hardwoods has decent prices on good ply. Then we have the place over in Frederick. Other than those, I'm not too sure. You may want to call Hagerstown kitchens and see if they can hook you up for a decent price, they do cabinet making so they should have a source.

I havent tried it out yet mate. I'm waiting to get some mdf to build a rolling stand for the bt/router. I take it you found the money?

Can you give me the details of the place near Winchester....it isnt too far and my wife wont mind as she'll have a reason to go to gabe's. Info on vienna hardwoods would be cool as well.

This place ROCKS. Has an excellent selection, great prices on sheet goods AND sells to the public (which is hard to find in hardwood plywood wholesale organizations).

Edit : Oh ya, they sell HDO and MDO as well.

If you are considering painting (which IMHO is the best option) then MDO or HDO may be the better option.

          Cheers for the tip Jeff!

I personally prefer the paint finish but the dark brown stain does have its own merit.....goes off to look up the link

I went to the "the lumber yard" here in town a couple of weeks ago and enquired about sheet goods. I got told $60 for a 3/4 sheet of mdo which seemed a bit pricy to me? Does that sound expensive or not?
