Best Filler for Painted 2x4 Project?

I am building a few projects out of construction grade 2x4's I have recently salvaged. There are a few nail holes that I need to fill before I paint. What would be the best filler? I will be painting, so I don't care about color match.

These will be used outside, but not left out in the elements or anything.

    Afternoon Joey...

Doesn't look as though anyone is going to jump on this one, so I will give you my take on coffee break from the shop and the much to do down there.

If not left outside and painted over, you could just just plaster filler.. but I don't know to what degree left in the elements is...

For just nail holes.. I would use wood filler and let it completely dry. If if shrinks, fill it with coats till you have it smooth. Now if it were going to be left in the elements and you had larger holes, gaps, etc... I would go with Bondo and then at least two coat it with porch and floor paint or top quality outside enamel at the least.

Just how I would do it..

    Regards...
