Poly over oil based gel stain?

I'm going to be refinishing a bed headboard that I believe is pine. Plan to use General Finishes oil based gel stain, but I want better protection. Arm-R-Seal is an oil & urethane top coat so I assume it would work well.

Comments? First time I've used a gel stain.

    Paul,
I use gel stain and the Arm-R-Seal poly mix almost exclusively. I am very happy with the finish they produce. I make a lot of picture frames out of cherry and always get a nice, even finish that shines beautifully. With that said I have only made a couple a frames using pine, which is harder to get a nice even finish on, but the couple I made did turn out well with that combo.

      Paul,

Give the gel stain plenty of time to dry/cure. Then double what you think you need, if its ever humid in Texas.

Thanks for the great advice ... humid as you-know-what lately!
