i got a question how are you going to screw your boards down under your threshold it looks like you have the joist right next to the bottem of your threshold you may want to lower it alittle so your boards slide under it

You nail 5 boards together and call that PROGRESS? But, then, my big accomplishment today was to buy 3 boards and bring them home!

Actually I don't have a threshold - it is just a smooth wall. Odd I know, but the house is 30yrs old.

Yeah. Like I said this house is 30 yrs old. Actually in pretty good shape. The old deck was a curious mix of overbuilt and half-@ss Well-built when new and not much was changed.
