    Sewing Machine Center Plans

My wife saw this in a catalog and wants one. I would rather make it myself, but I don't know if I have the time to design it. Does anyone have or know of where I can get plans for something similar to it? I've seen the plans for the Shaker type cabinets, but she wants something like the picture with the fold out wing, flip over top for working surface, etc.

Also, where would be a good place to purchase the machine lift?

    Thanks so much,

    Ted,
Rockller has a sewing machine lift to build into cabinets. It's a bit pricy at $134.99 but it's available.

FWIW, You don't need a lift, you can mount the machine in/on a panel that hinges down and out of the way when you want to close the cabinet.

I also saw 2 plans on Rockler's website...both looked nice. 1 was small ($4 for the plans), the other more elaborate. I've been looking around for some plans also, but I'm not ready to drop $150 for the lift.

I made one for my wife about 5 years ago. She mostly does quilting with the sewing machine and wanted a large surface but no lift. The table has two small drawers and section of the top that folds down in the rear. When up its supported by swing-out legs. It's also on wheels to easily move it around.

I'm interested in building something similar too. I plan on making it without the lift and having a dual height design so the sewing machine can be set even with the table top for flush sewing or raised so the floating arm feature can be used. The sewing machine and serger will set inside the cabinet when not in use. It just hasn't got to the top of my "to do" list yet. I was planning to start on it, then lightning blew a hole in the side of our master bedroom wall pushing the drywall and baseboard moulding into the room. Now I am getting it back together so the hurricanes this season can have something good to mess with.

            BTW, HarmsWay, that look great.
