That's a great idea. I never thought of it.

      hey guys

sorry for the delay in posting i have to many irons in the fire, i've hit a stubling block in my progress

the insert has proved to be very difficult to produce a clean usable piece
      to cut the external threads
i figured it would be pretty easy to make the insert using the 1 1/4" hdpe rod
step 1 cut to length 2"
step 2 drill out 1" dia hole 1" deep
      step 3 finish drilling 7/8"
step 4 tap with 1" tap
step 5 mark and drill a 5/16" hole for the router bit

the taps dont cut hdpe very good

i will update as i figure it out
i have another neighbor that has a full machine shop that i have been tring to catch for about 2 weeks now to see if he could just mill the inserts out for me

      thanks blame

Its hard to tell, and I could be wrong, but your taps look like thread restorer taps, not thread cutting taps. Thread restorer taps are used to salvage damaged threads that have been cut previously. Cutting threads with the restorer taps would be difficult and give poor results in almost any material.

they were listed as bottem taps but there china made and are soft steal
just cutting threads in acouple of the pcs of hedge with them they are already dull and losing there shape atleast for the 1" tap

i'm saving up to buy the beall set of taps which cost 30 bucks for the 1" tap
but you pay for what you get and the china taps suck LOL should of known better then to buy them

sorry guys here is the pic of the first threads i cut using the router jig

this was a home made dowel i made out of hedge on my old lathe it was 15/16" in dia
cut really fast took about 15 secs to cut the threads about 4"

but as you can see in the pic the first course of threads where not cut right i dont know if it was me or the way the jig is taped
