glueing two sheets of MDF

FWIW. My bench top is made of 3 layers of 3/4" MDF and a sacrficial layer of 1/4" masonite on top(which by now needs replacing) with a 3/4" oak "skirt" around the edge. I simply glued the three layers together using ordinary carpenters glue, could have been LePages, I don't remember, that was 6 years ago. Didn't use any screws, I remember that. Just weighted it down with whatever I could find, cement blocks, a old vice, pails filled with water, etc, etc.
Hasn't come apart yet after 6 years of use and sometimes abuse.

as for weights, another good alternative idea.
