glueing two sheets of MDF

thanks larry. when i used kregs screws the first time i was using mdf. the kit came with coarse screws. so of them held tight, while others would just continue to spin. then i tried fine and got the same result. i got the same results when i was assembling my work bench, so it just confused me.

my thinking was: since mdf is highly dense, i thought (just like hardwood) the fine threads would be better.

i will give the coarse threads a try again. - thanks

If you can get a hold of "confirmat" screws, they hold good also. But even with using coarse thread, don't pilot too deep into the second sheet. You'll want some density for the first few threads.

FWIW. My bench top is made of 3 layers of 3/4" MDF and a sacrficial layer of 1/4" masonite on top(which by now needs replacing) with a 3/4" oak "skirt" around the edge. I simply glued the three layers together using ordinary carpenters glue, could have been LePages, I don't remember, that was 6 years ago. Didn't use any screws, I remember that. Just weighted it down with whatever I could find, cement blocks, a old vice, pails filled with water, etc, etc.
Hasn't come apart yet after 6 years of use and sometimes abuse.

as for weights, another good alternative idea.
