    twisted drawer front

I have two matching kids dressers. I have been regluing and cleaned them up. The last drawer front is badly twisted. About 1 inch out.

It is old soft pine. One board. I have it off of the drawer box. I'm painting so don't really care about the finish. Any ideas on how to straighten it ? It is 6.5" x 22" 3/4" thick. Finished on the front only. Thick varnish. I don't care if it pops off.

Should I try to steam it ? I could make a new one but thought it look better to use the real one...

Was it twisted when it was attached to the drawer box, or did the twist show up when you took it off the drawer box? If the drawer box is rigid enough, and the force required to flatten the board is small enough...you see where I'm going.

Otherwise, more drastic measures will need to be taken. I think steaming will only get the wood into the shape you want temporarily. It will slowly go back to its current position.

    Regards,
    Tom

It was twisted on the box. It must have twisted or was stored somewhere where it got twisted. Think it would just be better to make a new face?
It would be a simple project and we are painting it anyway.

I know you can't make wood not do what it really wants too.

As was also thinking about kerfing it and adding a plywood panel to straighten it?

I think it would be faster and less fustrating to just make a new one. Just my 2 cents. Pat

I second that. We're up to 4 cents.
