Floor molding. What would you do?

With our remodel we had installed a lot of ceramic tile. Due to high spots in several places the molding will not go to the floor in some spots. Most are a matter of less than 1/8" and can be handled but have found a couple that are going to set the molding off by over 1/4" at each end if I split the difference. This just isn't exceptable. If it were a long run I could just bend it to fit but on the short runs bending doesn't seem possible. Tried sanding the bottom of the trim to fit the high spots and that did ok. Is that the way to handle the problem? How would you handle this situation?
    Thanks
    Steve

You could use oversized stock and scribe the bottom and then rout whatever profile on the top you wanted.

You could add a quarter-round shoe after you've installed the base. Since it's smaller and more flexible, it'll conform to irregularities better than the wide base and cover the gap.

You may not want to add this additional element, and it might not end up looking good...just wanted to throw out another option for you.

EDIT: I was thinking about this last night, and realized that you said you were talking about tile, so the 1/4 round idea isn't a good one. You would still have a large gap at the grout line where the tiles don't sit level w/ each other. Cabinetman and bauhaus are correct...scribing & cutting to fit is the right way to do it.

I'm not a big believer in bending moulding to fit. To me the bends are very obvious. Scribing the bottom would be my method (even though it's a PITA).

          Thanks for the replies.
Agree on the bending being less than optimum. Will have to give scribing a try.
Plan is to use a piece of molding set on the high spot and level. Useing a compass set to the widest gap and run the point along the floor while marking the board. With the small gap I may be able to use a carpenters pencil set on edge rather than the compass. Is this a good technique?
          Thanks

Sure, a carpenter's pencil will work fine if the gap is small enough. The main trick when scribing is to not change the orientation of the device being used to transfer the offset.

you could always try a large washer and put the pencil in the centre
