    Sliding Cabinet Shelves

Making a couple of shop cabinets and want to have the lower shelf to be able to extend so I can get to the stuff at the back of the shelf.

I have been searching the net for hardware and am completely confused. Hope someone cane give me a push in the right direction.

What you're building is basically just a drawer with no box. You can use any drawer slides to do what you want - just mount them to the sides of the shelf and you're good to go.

How wide? If not very wide, why not use regular drawer slides, just use real low sides and back so the stuff won't fall off?
Google "Sliding Cabinet Shelves" for examples.

If you really had some objection to even stubby sides (I think you'd still want them), you could use bottom mounting drawer slides too since you mention this is the bottom shelf.

My desk features a couple of these, and I used accuride slides. They work great. I did put a front and back on the shelves so that things won't fall off of them as I slide them in and out of the cabinet.

Checked out the Accuride slides. The only ones I found that were 12" long were 1 13/16" tall and 1/2" wide. So I guess the shelf will have to morph into a box. Anyone know how to refresh my mind on how to do Locked Rabbeted Drawer Joints?

Did you remember the part number of the slides you used?

Researching the slides available all I found were slides that were 1 13/16" tall.

How about these - they mount underneath.

Well, the accuride slides that I used are directly mounted to a 3/4 piece of ply. So I didn't have to build a box. Thing to note about the slides is that they are telescoping slides. The part that attaches to the drawer isn't 1 13/16" tall. Mine were just about 3/4", and they slide into another section with ball bearings, and it slides into another section that you attach to your cabinet with ball bearings. Those BB areas take up some room.
