    First Big Woodworking Project

    Hey guys.....finally starting to look like something so wanted to share. Everything I try moves slowly so I'm still a few weeks away from putting this altogether. The last few pics on this page show a little of the work so far:

    The rails between the headboard and footboard legs as well as the rails between headboard and footboard are maple plywood which I picked up from Home Depot. Has anyone else had trouble with the plywood separating ? I had the top couple of layers on one edge separate from the rest for a span of about 8 inches. Just noticed it last night, thankfully in a piece I hadn't used for anything.

    Can I glue and clamp this back together ? Any thoughts ?

      Does this happen often ? I've only used oak plywood before now and never had it do that.

      Just wondering if I can put glue into there, clamp it with some cauls and expect it to hold together ? Or just stay away and not use that section for anything ?

          Did you get the sheet for $30 - $40? There's been a lot of discussion the last year or two about cheap ply from HD (country of origin usually noted as China, FWIW). I bought exactly one piece of it a year or two ago, before knowing better, and will steer clear in the future. Delamination is one issue; the piece I had also curled up like a potato chip after a few weeks.

          If you fix one glue line now, who's to say another won't go later? I'd return the leftovers to HD, and tell them to start talking.

              I posted in another thread about some of these pieces being warped. And yes, this was I think $39.99 from HD.

              Ok, lesson learned. I have a lumber mill about 10 miles from my house that I'm gonna try to check out on Saturday. They have some great prices listed on their Woodfinder website so we'll see. If not, I have a lead on another one about 25 miles away.
