    Bubinga desk

I talked my wife into letting me use bubinga. After she seen the bowl I made she really liked the wood. Good thing that one turned out....
The huge 5/4 quartersawn one I had to have cut since we took the SUV. It was 12.7 BF. the other two are about 13.4 BF..Almost $250...OUCH.
They had one more board but it looked more yellow than red so I decided to wait for some more to pick from. I will use the QS for the top and probably the drawer fronts. I am going to resaw it and put about 1/4" veneer probably over poplar. Maybe I should put it on plywood...Not sure yet..I have a bunch of poplar left over but some of the scraps in the shop are twisting and cupping. Kinda scared to mess with it. I dont want the desk top to get out of wack.

That'll be an outstanding desk when you are done. I would recommend using baltic birch if you are going to veleer it, and use a veneer on both sides. 1/4" is a bit heavy for a veneer though. I have found that 1/16 works well, and is actually thick for a veneer. 1/8" would be about as heavy as I'd go to create a stable result.
