                Niki or anyone else,

Why don't you cut the recesses for the mirror on the individual frame pieces before gluing them up? Seems like it would leave nice square corners without having to use a chisel.

                What am I missing here?

                  Hi Jack

Have a look at "Part I", reply #6 (picture 21 from the top) that it's written "The 2nd hole is drilled with spacer No.1"

you can see that the round part is mostly on the long rail and even if you route it before gluing(and you have to be very careful not to over-route) it will still be there, unless, you route longer recess (by half a radius of the bit) but the longer recess will be visible.

You can route the recesses before gluing if the frame has 45° connections.

Very nice work, Niki. What will you use for the back? 3-4mm ply or the type that has the look of narrow, individual boards with a beading between (can't think of the name right now - someone help) ? Will this be a display cabinet for curios?
                    Later,
                    Chiz
                    Blessings,
                    Chiz

                      Thank you Ironhat

The back is a 4mm mirror backed with 6mm plywood.

And yes, it is a display cabinet, as you can see here
