    Groove in a Dowle

I need to put a 1/4" x1/8" groove/dado in a 3/4" Walnut Dowel. What is the best way to do this? This to hide a lamp cord for a Christmas project. I was thinking of drilling a series of holes using a Forstner bit, then using a chisel to clean it up. Is there a faster way. The dowels are 12" long

    Thanks

I'd probably make a V-shaped groove in a block of scrap, then clamp down the dowel in the groove (maybe tack it down with hot glue) and route the slot. Top of the block should be wide enough to support the router base, so a 2x6 or similar should do the trick.

I'd use the router table. I'd keep the dowels a little long and attach a piece of wood at the ends that can register against the router table fence. When done routing the groove, I'd cut the dowel to the correct length.

I would clamp the dowel between two pieces of 3/4" panels laid flat and set up a straight edge for hand routing.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I made a V groove in a 36" 2X4 and screwed the Dowel ( 1 screw in each end) into the grove and then used my 1/3" slot cutting bit on my router table, kind of stopped dado. Took longer to set every up than to do, but was able to get exactly what I wanted.
