I posted in Bargains but realized it's wrong place.

Just got back from turners club meeting.
Gary Chanin, local hardwood guru let us have it as his shop.
He gave a blurb about what things he's doing with his company...exciting stuff!!
This website is from Oz and they have given Gary the rights for North America for the wood they're harvesting.

He had samples of 6 of the woods tonight.
He's bringing everything they have ready for the next 2-3 months.

He also picked up Fiddes finishes out of UK.

From what I saw there's some beautiful wood, at least in the photos. Would love to see some "live." Wonder who in NA they are setting up with?

I suspect I may have seen some of these (in passing) at our WW Show, but because I'm not a Turner, I've never stopped to even look properly.

I do know Ironbark is like Ebony (Kirby note: hard and heavy as *** ). And is used for a Nulla Nulla:
"Nulla nulla is an Australian Aboriginal term for club, probably derived from one of the Sydney district dialects. The Aborigines had a variety of clubs for hunting and fighting. Most of them were of wood with pointed, rounded, or knobbed heads and handles about 3 feet (1 meter) long, but in some cases, stone heads were attached. Aborigines often threw nulla nullas at their enemies or at animals they were hunting". From World Book Enclopedia.

I've often wondered what the Aussie word for shillelagh was. Well, not often, but ocasionally. Okay, once, today, while I was reading your post.

Now, in all honesty, I found that little piece of trivia fascinating. Thanks!
