Salty, great work, would be proud to have one sitting on my mantle.
I was looking for something that showed the size of these--no references in the photos. And what clock movement are you using?Measure it with a micrometer...
Mark it with a crayon...
Cut it with a chain saw!

Thanks for all the kind words folks.
The clock movements are from Klockit.com, the 2-3/4", part number 15595,
Pink Floral Arabic. I also got the 2-3/8" spur bit to cut the holes. I had considered trying to use some other, read cheap, way of cutting the holes but am now glad I spent the money on the bit. It went very nicely.
The movements are held in with spring tension clips and easily pull out for battery changes and setting the time. I really need to make some more that use the same hole size since the bit cost more than the movements and the batteries combined.
Here is another picture that shows how thick they are. I sandwiched a piece of 4/4 walnut between 2 pieces of 3/4 poplar, all were scraps gathered from a previous job. The base is a piece of red oak.Last edited by Salty; 11-23-2008, 11:10 AM.Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?Comment

I thought I saw a darker section in the first picture. The finish shows up better from this angle, too.Don, aka Pappy,
