    Gun vice ?

Can you help ? I have been looking for plans or drawing for a clamp or vice to hold long guns ( rifle shotgun ) for cleaning . I know I have seen one somewhare. It had a cradle foe forstock and a pocket for the butt. There was some type of wooden cam to hold gun tight. I would like to build a few of them for gifts to my hunting buddies.

    Thanks Trash man.
If it aint broke dont fix it.

No plans or drawings, but here's one that I made for the 2x6 entry a while back. Tried linking to that area of the forums, but my entry thread is now populated with another conversation.

The buttstock clamp works reasonably well (just needs to hold things firmly). I have a gallery with the build process pictures if your interested in looking at that.

Mine is similar but made of 3/4 material. I doubled it up at the clamp at the back and where the gun is supported at the front. I used carpet to cushion where the clamp touches the gun at the back. I also added blocks of 3/4 pine with holes the right size to hold cleaning supplies and a couple holes for a cleaning rod on one side. Finally, I screwed a medicine bottle to the base to hold jags and brushes. Looks a bit ugly but works fine.

          Jim,
Sounds like a good working solution. Carpet is a good idea, don't know if you can obviously see from the picture above -- but I used some leather left over from my chaps to cushion the stock in the clamp.
