    Well, here it is

    Finally finished this entertainment center.
I'd do some things differently if I were to build another. But I'd probably always say that.
Considering the cheap woodgrain skinned particle board, sagging like an old horse, thing that was there before...this looks nice.
And, best of all, it breaks down easily into 7 pieces and there is only 1 screw to remove. Don't ask, that's my secret! :-)
If you try hard ehough you can make the cheap box store plywood look decent.
I also was able to separate the tower from the TV base and get to the back easily. This way I could get all of the equipent working correctly and then connect the base and other pieces.

              Thanks all.
It got the approval of the LOML as well so I guess it stays.

Super nice! I always say, if you want it to look perfect, buy it in a store, but it won't do what you want...
I love the idea of having the TV/tower separate. I'm getting ready to build a TV/entertainment center for us, and I think I'll steal that idea if you don't have it patented! That's always been a pain with the old one and I never thought of that.

OK, I wasn't going to keep anything secret. I just needed time to find a picture of one of the hardware items.
The base is connected to the tower using flush mount clips. I've had these laying around for years and cannot remember where I acquired them but they are available at LeeValley, part number 00M85.01. Since the face frame of the tower extends 1/8" past the side panel, this lended itself to the use of these clips. No mortising was necessary, just a thin spacer to equal the 1/8" gap. All I have to do is pick up on the base unit and slide the clips together. It made for an amazingly strong connection that is easily removed.
The top rails that connect between the tower and the vertical panel at the other end are connected using the keyhole clips, Rockler part number 28837.
One on each end makes removing them easy and once the top is set they cannot pivot.
The single screw used holds the end vertical support onto the base top, fastened from the bottom of the base top. The most difficult part of this project was forcing myself to drill a hole into the nicely finished base top!! This is just to keep the front of it from moving and the connection is made prior to setting the base top onto the base. The back of the vertical support has a 1/4" thick extension that goes down past the base top and keeps the back of the vertical from moving. I had considered using a 2-piece KD fitting but I did not want any visible fasteners.
So, the assembly is: connect the tower to the base, connect the end vertical to the base top, set the base top on the base, set the top rails in place and set the top shelf on the whole unit.
BTW, the base top and the top shelf are not fastened. There are corner blocks glued underneath to keep them in position.
I have since added a trim piece under the front edge of the base top, just to make it look better, and added a trim piece between the tower and base to cover the gap above the flush mount clips.

WOW! That is beautiful! I can't believe regular old big box plywood can turn out that nice. I really like the idea of being able to take it apart. Super idea. You have started me rethinking about doing that with all my projects - if possible. Now that I'm getting older I just can't lift things like I used to and being able to build stuff that I don't have to lift the entire project around is very appealing. Again, beautiful job. You need extremely nice and thanks for the part numbers and assembly description.
May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, Mac
