    Furniture Wax?

OK, I have a can of Johnson's Paste Wax that I use for my TS surface. My question is (probably a dumb one): When exactly would one use furniture wax? Would it go over a finish (poly, for example)? Is it used in place of poly or another finish? Is it any good on painted projects?

The above project has a hand rubbed oil finish plus a couple coats of wax! Before modern finishes wax was used to add luster.

The applications are pretty much endless, while understanding that it provides very little protection of the wood.
You could take a project wash coat in 1# coat shellac to seal the wood, sand that down, then apply the Johnsons. That gives a nice handrub look.
You can use it as furniture polish, understanding it provides little protection and no real value to the wood (polish does NOT condition finished wood, regardless of what Pledge will have you believe).
You can use it over painted finish but a properly finished paint finish really is not going to benefit a lot.
You can use it over poly. Let it dry hard then buff it off on high gloss finishes or wipe light coat on, let it get hazy and wipe it off for matte finish.
Basically, paste wax provides little protection (3rd time saying that?) but can be used as a finish itself or possibly enhance other finish.

Edit : BTW Walnut, very nice. I have not mastered the curved raised panel yet and am working on it over the next few weeks.
