    What wood goes with Zebrawood?

I have a nice piece of highly figure, bookmatched Zebrawood. I intend to use it as the door for a small cabinet. It will be appr. 20x12x12".

The cabinet wood will frame the door.

I was thinking about cherry, but, I am partially color blind [red-green] and lack confidence that I will create a horror. LOML matches my ties to my suits and I memorize them. I can't consult with her as the cabinet is a surprise.

I have some nice pieces of other figured wood, but I am afraid they will detract from the door.

    Any suggestions?

    Steve

Hmmmm.. Thinking along the lines of Dark Walnut, Makore or Rosewood stained reddish brown.

I would go with either Maple or Walnut depending on the predominant color of the zebrawood. Really make is pop.

I agree with Maple or Walnut depending upon where the cabinet is going, what the style of the room is (ie dark furniture or light furniture) and the overall composition of the zebrawood. I would lean heavily to the walnut if your zebrawood is typical in color tone. Unless you have a real light zebrawood (which it doesnt sound like you do) I really like that walnut.

I am not sure about the reddish tone dye or stain. That really wouldn't bring a lot out of the zebrawood IMHO. YMMV.

I was thinking a little Zebrawood with some tiger maple, might just make some bloodwood.
Actually if the colors were just right, those three woods would be pretty stunning togetrher.

Here is a photo of the Zebrawood. Nothing on it, just raw.

                      Ummmmmmmm. Uhhhhhhhh. What?

Is your camera playing tricks on you or is the person who dyed it playing tricks on you?

For normal Zebrawood, most teak matches the color of the light stripes real well. For the darker stripes, maybe walnut. I would recommend an ebony wood over walnut, but that is expensive.

IMHO, Ebony and teak match the two colors of zebrawood best. If you add a third color, even if it is close, the contrast will be noticable.

You said you were color blind and not meaning to slight you in any way, but the photo of the zebrawood shows up very blue-green - which is not the normal color of zebrawood. You might want to show a freind a picture of the photo and the wood and ask if they are the same. If they are, then you got some dyed zebrawood somehow.

Now you know what I mean about being colorblind. I think this photo is a little closer.

So far the consensus seems to be walnut.

Still an odd color Zebrawood . . . . very unique, but I still think that the camera or scanner may be playing with us.
